I first met Dr. Katzen about three years ago while working at a hospital. I have always been a very modest person and was very nervous about my appointment. I was amazed at how Dr. Katzen made me feel so comfortable. I truly never expected to be treated as well as he treated me, as he does all his patients. He does not make you feel rushed or hurried as some Dr.’s do. He listens and takes everything you have to say under great consideration. He listens to your fears and addresses them. Not to mention he has the best bedside manner and never makes you feel abnormal.Dr. Katzen has performed several procedures on me; Breast lift with augmentation and implants, Brachioplasty (upper arm lift), medial thigh lift, removal of Spider veins, and removal of a cyst (neuroma) on my left wrist. These procedures were done during two separate surgeries. Dr. Katzen would not risk doing all procedures at one time. His first and main concern is safety for his patients and sticks by that. Before going under anesthesia, my request to Dr. Katzen was to make my thighs extremely tight.  Be careful what you wish for, I have now been known to have the tightest thighs in Southern California! His aftercare was amazing. He is there for you all the time. You can call him directly with questions and he will see you if needed whenever possible. His staff was always there for me too. His expertise in pain management also helped in my recovery.

I wanted to thank you for an amazing job at treating my spider veins. I felt so comfortable when you explained the entire process of the procedure. I loved how I was able to come in and go.I used to hate to wear shorts, skirt and short dresses. My veins were super ugly, large and unsightly. I was so happy that I got treated during my lunch break and was able to return to work immediately. When my procedure was finished, those ugly veins were gone instantly.I am looking forward to wearing shorts and short dresses again without being embarrassed. Thank you Dr. Katzen! You are the best.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is helpful for women and men who are unhappy with the presence of small- to medium-sized blood vessels that are visible through the skin of their body and face. Usually, these spider veins are most obvious on the lower legs and thighs, which leads patients to avoid wearing shorts, swimsuits, or other clothing that could reveal their spider veins. Potential candidates for this procedure need to be in good health before their appointment to minimize the chance of complications. Patients considering this treatment should not be pregnant or have a history of blood clots.

How is Sclerotherapy performed?

Your sclerotherapy service will be completed in one of our private treatment rooms quickly and typically without the need for anesthesia. The intended treatment areas are selected, and the surrounding skin will be sanitized. A fine-gauge needle is then inserted into the vein to administer the sclerosing solution. Once the solution has been fully injected, the needle is removed and a bandage will be placed over the site to prevent any minor bleeding. This process is repeated until all spider veins have been addressed.

About Us

What should i Expect after Sclerotherapy?

Following your sclerotherapy treatment session, you may leave when you feel comfortable enough to return to your normal activities. You may see some swelling, redness, or bruising in the treated areas, but these effects will diminish over the coming days. Compression garments will be recommended by Dr. Katzen to help with blood circulation for faster, better results. It may take some time for the sclerotherapy to work, but eventually, the treated blood vessels should shrink, change to white, and then fade or disappear. You may require two or more sessions to achieve optimal results, but most patients tend to be pleased with their results after their first treatment.

Banish Spider Veins

The unwanted spider veins that develop on your face and body can be frustrating, especially as they get bigger over time. To get rid of these unsightly veins, learn more about sclerotherapy treatments offered at our office in Beverly Hills, CA. To address your cosmetic concerns, plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Katzen can develop a unique treatment plan that will help you look and feel your best.

How are sclerotherapy and laser vein treatments different?

Rather than using light energy to treat unsightly veins, sclerotherapy uses a specialized solution injected into the vein, causing it to close off. The vein then collapses and is reabsorbed by the body. This makes sclerotherapy better suited for medium to larger spider and varicose veins, whereas laser treatments are better for smaller vessels located in more sensitive areas like the face.

Is sclerotherapy safe for the hands and face?

Yes, it is. In fact, many types of unsightly vessels and vascular blemishes on the hands and face can be treated with sclerotherapy. During your consultation, Dr. Katzen will examine your skin to determine if sclerotherapy is right for your needs and goals. If sclerotherapy isn't the best option for the location and type of vein, Dr. Katzen can recommend other effective treatments to help address your veins.

How long will I need to wear compression stockings after sclerotherapy?

Most patients will need to wear compression stockings for about two weeks after sclerotherapy. Dr. Katzen will give you instructions on how long you'll need to wear compression stockings for your particular situation to aid healing and minimize bruising. It is recommended that you continue to wear compression stockings anytime you are seated for long periods, taking long car rides, or flying on an airplane.
