Celebrity Plastic Surgeon, Dr. J. Timothy Katzen has been dubbed the “miracle doctor” when performing the body lift, also known as the 360 circumferential body lift. Here are some things to remember when considering the 360 circumferential body lift with Dr. Katzen. Prepping for the 360 Circumferential Lower Body Lift Procedure Are you ready for the consultation? 1) Before you consider a lower body lift, your weight should be constant for three to four months within a range of two to three pounds. 2) If you smoke, STOP. Ideally, you should be smoke-free for three to four months before a lower body lift. 3) If you have uncontrolled diabetes, get it under control. Uncontrolled sugars negatively impact your healing. 4) Continue to exercise and eat a balanced diet. These activities help your body preserve the muscle mass it needs to handle post-surgical metabolic demands. 5) SLEEP! SLEEP! SLEEP! It is essential to get enough sleep to recover faster. During your consultation with Dr. Katzen…. Dr. Katzen will discuss with you if you are a good candidate for the 360 circumferential lower body lift. Dr. Katzen will show you in the mirror what he hopes to achieve. Bring a list of questions and concerns you have. Dr. Katzen will happily answer any and all of your questions. Dr. Katzen and his staff would rather you know everything before surgery than for you to have questions after your body lift. Get your supplies and get your house in order!! Here is a list of things you will need for the 360 circumferential body lift 1) Recliner 2) Concentrated protein drinks so after surgery, you can drink about 100 grams of protein a day for about three weeks 3) Prune juice to minimize constipation 4) Phone charger next to your recliner 5) Sequential compression device to reduce the chances of a blood clot 6) Backscratcher to get itchy places 7) Alligator grippers to grab stuff off the floor 8) Toilet seat riser 9) Walker 10) Sheepskin pads to make the recliner more comfortable and minimize the chances of a pressure sore 11) Chucks or wee-wee pads to catch any body fluids 12) A big plastic bag or silk pillow to get in and out of the car 13) Poise sanitary pads for the incision line 14) Painter’s tape for the dressing 15) Lanyard for the drains 16) Loose fitting clothes like sundresses, robes, and baggy sweatpants. Also, prepare a place in your home where you plan to spend to spend most of your recovery time. Prepare this room with essentials you feel would be necessary and keep them close, to limit getting up for optimal healing. Make sure to arrange someone to help you around the house. The goal is to restrict yourself from any physical activity. If you have kids or pets, for two weeks at least, arrange for someone to look after them. Pre-operative meeting with Dr. Katzen…. Several days before your 360 circumferential lower body lift, you will meet with Dr. Katzen again. You and Dr. Katzen will review your labs, EKG, and chest x-ray results. Dr. Katzen will take preoperative pictures. You and Dr. Katzen will discuss the consent for surgery. Dr. Katzen will give you prescriptions for narcotics, antibiotics, stool softener, and a blood thinner. Please get these filled before surgery. After a 360 circumferential body lift, the last thing you want to be doing is waiting in line at the pharmacy to have your prescriptions filled. Dr. Katzen will give you the address of the surgical facility. Please use your smartphone or your computer to determine exactly where the surgery will occur and how long it will take you to drive there from your home or hotel. Please bring any of your last minute questions for review before the surgery. Surgery day is finally here... Please plan to be early. You don’t want to be rushing around at the last minute on the way to surgery. Once you arrive at the surgery center or hospital, there will be paperwork you need to complete. Once the paperwork is completed, you will be brought back to the preoperative holding area. You will change into a surgical gown. You will put your belongings and clothes in a locker. Dr. Katzen will take the “before” pictures and draw on your body his surgical plan. An IV will be started. You will meet with your anesthesiologist and any last-minute questions will be answered. You will be given medications to help you to relax and then it’s off to the operating room… In the Operating Room So you’re on the gurney in the OR staring at the ceiling and waiting for what comes next. As the anesthetic drips in, you will slowly and painlessly drift off to sleep and go to your designated, pre-operative vacation spot. While you are dreaming about laying on the beach with your new body, Dr. Katzen and his team will be hard at work. Dr. Katzen’s anesthesiologist will insert a breathing tube and place several more monitors. Dr. Katzen’s nurse will insert a bladder catheter and leg squeezers. Then, you will be flipped very carefully and put facedown on the operating room table. You will be padded appropriately. Dr. Katzen’s nurse will prep your skin with Betadine. Dr. Katzen begins the 360 circumferential lower body lift on your back. Dr. Katzen will incise, dissect, and remove excess buttock and hip skin and fat. Once everything is removed and lifted, drains are placed, and the incision is closed. You are flipped carefully on the operating room table and Dr. Katzen’s nurse will re-prep your abdomen with Betadine. Dr. Katzen will then continue the incision around the front to complete your 360 circumferential lower body lift. After the incision is made, Dr. Katzen will dissect to your ribcage and sternum. Your rectus abdominis will be tightened, and your abdominal skin will be pulled down and resected. Your belly button will be re-positioned on your new abdominal wall. The result will be a flat, tight abdomen. Once Dr. Katzen is finished, a garment or binder will be placed. Dr.Katzen’s anesthesiologist will give you reversal medication, and you will wake up slowly and pain-free. You can watch Dr. Katzen’s procedural video below: Post-Op Course Immediately following the 360 circumferential lower body lift surgery, you will wake up slowly in the recovery room. You will be monitored for one to two hours as the anesthesia works its way out of your body. Ideally, then you will spend two or more days in a recovery center. Dr. Katzen will prescribe pain medication to ease the pain and discomfort after surgery. Little by little, you will return to your routine. Since everyone heals differently and at a different rate, complete healing time varies significantly. To be sure you are healing well, you will follow-up frequently with Dr. Katzen. During the follow-up visits, if you opted for a pain pump, once it is finished, the pain-pump will be removed. During the post-operative period, you will monitor the output from your drains. Once your drains have stopped draining much fluid, Dr. Katzen will remove them painlessly. Cost and Insurance The cost of a 360 circumferential lower body lift varies greatly geographically and from plastic surgeon to plastic surgeon. There are always finance options available to patients. Insurance companies are a tricky business. If the 360 circumferential body lift can be shown to be medically necessary, insurance may cover the surgery. The key words in the previous sentence are “medically necessary.” Ultimately, your insurance provider has the final say in whether or not the 360 circumferential body lift is “medically necessary”.
